SUMMARY:Where Does Art Breathe?
DESCRIPTION:Panel Talk: Where Does Art Breathe? How do institutions generate and foster forward-thinking creative projects? How do these Bay Area leaders coalesce their own interests\, the specifics of a target audience and the forward momentum of current artistic production to form an overarching artistic vision that is open and inspired? Is it possible for art to breathe given the parameters set by institutional goals and funding requirements? We’ll talk about how they define their organizations’ creative missions and share recent artistic projects that exemplify those goals. Meg Shiffler\, Director of the San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries\, in conversation with Lawrence R. Rinder\, Director of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive; Tomas McCabe\, Executive Director of Black Rock Arts Foundation; and Abby Chen\, Artistic Director of the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco.
